Valiant by Bella Jewel is the newest in the Joker’s Wrath
kids series, and boy is it a good one. This one features Jack, Jaylah and
Diesel’s youngest son, and a woman with a backstory that will break your heart.
Baylee is running for her life, and taking care of herself and her
ex-boyfriend’s pregnant kid sister while working herself to the bone. The
relationship is a complicated as the situation, so Baylee has no room for any
man, including Jack.
This was a good book, and
not quite as suspenseful as I would have thought given the circumstances of her
past. Baylee is definitely a broken girl, and she tries to protect herself
against anyone. She is a bit of a pushover, and seeing her past and present
coincide made me understand why she was the way it was, but it kinda got a bit
annoying after a while. Jack is an absolute sweetheart, and his patience and
willingness to help her endears him to me. The pace works really well for most
of the book, but I did feel that the book was a bit rushed toward the end.
Overall it was a nice addition to the series, and I loved delving into the
Joker’s Wrath world again.
