BITTERSWEET BY SARINA BOWEN
The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago they’d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago.
At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesn’t have time for the sorority girl who’s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price.
Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder’s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay—a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way.
They’re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audrey’s top secret enchilada sauce, and then some.
MY REVIEW
Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen is about two people for
whom life didn’t go as planned, but they somehow ended up exactly where they
were supposed to be. Griffin Shipley has been devoted to his family’s farm following
the death of his father, although his talent and drive could have taken him any
number of places. Audrey Kidder may not have her ideal job of working as a
chef, but she is still immersed in the food industry by working with Vermont
farmers to sell their food to the company she currently works for.
I don’t know that’s I’d call this a second chance romance,
but the hero and heroine definitely knew each other and had a past sexual
relationship. These two clash, and they are a long way from the college
students that used to burn up the sheets. It was hard to understand Audrey’s
motives at times, and she became a complicated figure with all too human fallibilities.
Griff was saddled with family obligations and trying to hold onto the old while
embracing the new ways, and it made him all the more loveable. This is a very
low angst, sweet romance about two people getting what they need exactly when
they need it. Another great start to the series.
