Valiant by Bella Jewel is the newest in the Joker’s Wrath kids series, and boy is it a good one. This one features Jack, Jaylah and Diesel’s youngest son, and a woman with a backstory that will break your heart. Baylee is running for her life, and taking care of herself and her ex-boyfriend’s pregnant kid sister while working herself to the bone. The relationship is a complicated as the situation, so Baylee has no room for any man, including Jack.

This was a good book, and not quite as suspenseful as I would have thought given the circumstances of her past. Baylee is definitely a broken girl, and she tries to protect herself against anyone. She is a bit of a pushover, and seeing her past and present coincide made me understand why she was the way it was, but it kinda got a bit annoying after a while. Jack is an absolute sweetheart, and his patience and willingness to help her endears him to me. The pace works really well for most of the book, but I did feel that the book was a bit rushed toward the end. Overall it was a nice addition to the series, and I loved delving into the Joker’s Wrath world again.

MY REVIEW

   

Gianna LeBron has been through a lot of difficulty within her life. From the tragedy that was her first marriage she learned first hand that she needs to rely only on herself, and she finds herself in a bind trying to pay for her three children. Jase is the one guy she can't have while she continues to work in her current job, but he's the one who always seems to be there when she needs it.

This was an interesting book, and I liked the way it was a slow burn relationship between Gianna and Jase. While I enjoyed the couple overall, the problem for me was Gianna herself. She seemed to always be the victim and felt like she had no options, and while I understood her reasons, it didn't make her that much more relatable to me. Like I said, overall I enjoyed the storyline and the people, but I felt like the victim card was played quite a bit.
