MY REVIEW

    

Rite of Passage by Catherine Gayle tackles some real life issues with strength and care. This in one of the books in the Tulsa Thunderbird series, so if you love a great hockey romance make sure you read this series. I highly recommend it! Andrew Nash is at a crossroads. After a serious injury last year he had to divulge his HIV status, and as a result he doesn't know whether he's going to continue with the career he loves. Ravyn Penn is the last person who feels like she can help Drew, but she learns that sometimes its those with the biggest scars who are able to help.

Ravyn and Drew were a great couple, and I loved the way Ms. Gayle was able to take something that was so broken and made it beautiful. Ravyn was able to learn what it meant to rely on someone else and to begin to trust herself and her worth, while Drew was able to see beyond his issues to continue to do what he needed. This was a great book in the Thunderbird series!

MY REVIEW

    

I love the Portland Storm series, and Game Breaker only adds to this great series. Annie is a sports reporter who is in the midst of creating a behind the scenes look at the Portland Storm hockey team, including Nate. He’s an amazing player, but the other fans have been slinging dirt at him for months and its finally starting to get out of control.

I’m gonna be honest, Annie wasn’t my favorite person, especially at the beginning when she was trying to prove herself and isn’t the best with sensitive information. This changes as I go on, and part of this is due to Nate. He does a great job of helping pull her in, and I had nothing but respect for him. There romance was steamy, and it really added to their story, but this was a story about the growth of Nate and Annie. This was a different type of book, because we got to see the guys from a different perspective and there were a couple of different storylines and twists that I really wasn’t expecting. I loved it, and look forward to the next book in the Storm series.

Hockey and Romance are melded once again in Catherine Gayle’s Ghost Dance about Dmitri Nazarenko (Dima) and London Hawke and displays the newest team, the Tulsa Thunderbirds. I have been loving this new series, whose guys aren’t the wholesome ones you knew in the Portland Storm series, and shows her versatility. Dima is a NHL player who can’t get over a poor decision that happened years ago, while London is the one determined to help set him free. Having experienced her own problems which left her in a wheelchair she knows all too well than to wallow in her own grief.

They both are trapped by their own issues stemming from an accident that happened years ago and its London’s stubborn nature that brings them together. She is as tenacious as a dog with a bone, refusing to let him or anyone wallow in their own pity and grief. You truly see the change in him, and watch the positive strides he makes in his own life to move past his own guilt. London does her own soul searching, and realizes she can’t demand others to drink the koolaid if she isn’t willing to take a glass as well. If anything I would say that I loved the journey these two took together to end up in the same place. The usual cast of characters enhanced the story, and it was nice to see the updates from team members we’ve grown to love. The drama itself was less angsty, having more to do with their relationship than anything else, but it was a great ride. And that ending will leave you looking around wanting the next book NOW. It’s not a cliffhanger for the couples, but rather a buildup of what’s to come. I can’t wait. Another winner and I slurped it up with my sports romance loving heart.

Those Babcock boys are back in Losing an Edge by Catherine Gayle. Jamie’s younger brother, Levi, called 501, is bound and determined to get out of the shadow of his older brother. When he starts dating Canada’s figure skating darling, Candace, is in Portland to heal after a rough couple of years. Both are down on their luck and hoping to pick themselves up, and find something in each other they can’t find anywhere else. Losing an Edge is the next book in the Portland Storm series, and I would highly recommend picking up these books in you are looking for a great hockey series.

Anyone can relate for feelings of inadequacy, and these two have beat themselves up to the point they can’t see what’s in front of them. Levi is a perfect gentleman, and the way he treats Candace after he hears about what she has been through makes me want to clone him. Candace has a lot of stuff to work through, but I admired the way she was able to move beyond her bad relationships to develop something worthwhile with Levi. As usual, there were several people from the Portland Storm making an appearance, and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

MY REVIEW

     

Razor has always been the guy that never seemed to grow up, but I feel in love with him in Smoke Signals. His story and Tori’s is not a traditional love story, but it’s beautiful all the same. They meet when she propositions him for sex, and instead of making her feel cheap he marries her instead. The rest of the story is spent watching them wade themselves through their relationship.

I must admit when I realized what her former professional was I wondered how Ms. Gayle would spin this. I shouldn’t have worried, because my heart bled for her, and Catherine Gayle truly captured the plight of many women doing sex work. Razor was an amazing person, and exactly what she needed in order to her heal her body, heart, and mind. He was still the same loveable person, but showed a maturity he never quite captured while he was with the Portland Storm. It was always enjoyable to read about the other characters from both series, and the wedding was truly magical. Every book, be it the Portland Storm or the Tulsa Thuderbirds Series seems to get better!

Home Ice by Catherine Gayle is the perfect addition to her Portland Storm series. This novella is a standalone, but I would definitely recommend reading the rest of the series because it’s a great sports romance series and will provide some backdrop to Mattias Bergstrom. Mattias is the head coach of the Storm, and he is known for being hardcore on the ice, so it’s heartening to see him soften up to Paige Calhoun and her girls.

Paige has her hands full handling her four girls, especially her youngest daughter, Sophie. Mattias, or Bergy as he’s known, recognizes his own sister in Sophie, who also has Down syndrome. I definitely fell in love with Bergy watching the way he acted toward Sophie. He was exactly what Paige and her daughters needed, providing them support and making sure they were taken care of. Paige deserves a medal after dealing with four boy crazy girls, and she had my respect from the very beginning of the story. She was an independent woman who took care of herself, but she was still willing to allow Bergy within her life. This was a great story, and I can’t wait to read more about these girls (hopefully)!

He was poised to be an elite goalie for a contending team. 

Hunter Fielding has long since proven himself to be one of the best goaltenders in the NHL. The problem? His former team had another (slightly better) backstop. They left Hunter out to dry, the upstart Tulsa Thunderbirds claimed him in the expansion draft, and he made a few stupid comments about backasswards Oklahomans. Bury the Hatchet by Catherine Gayle is a spin-off of the Portland Storm series with the Tulsa Thunderbirds, the expansion team that includes some of the favorites from the original Storm. Hunter Fielding is one such player, playing goaltender for the new team. After sticking his foot in his mouth when he first joins the team he’s looking to redeem himself. Enter Tallulah Belle Roth, who also needs to reclaim her tarnished reputation. They both need to get back in the good graces of the good people of Oklahoma, so they hatch a plan to pretend to be happily married to give everyone something else to talk about.

It was interesting to get to know Hunter in this book, and his backstory tugged at my heartstrings. They both made mistakes, and the road to redemption is long and hard. Tillie is no different, and the way Ms. Gayle shows these two broken people coming together made for a great read. There was a bit of suspense to keep the story going, and I enjoyed reading about this new team. There were a couple of old favorites who popped up, and I’m loving the new team! Another great read!
