ROOKIE MOVE
BY SARINA BOWEN

BROOKLYN BRUISERS (BOOK ONE)

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington. Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast...

"Romantic and hilarious, Rookie Move will hook you from page one. Nobody does hockey like Sarina Bowen." --Elle Kennedy, New York Times bestselling author of the Off Campus series.

LOSING AN EDGE BY CATHERINE GAYLE REVIEW!!

LOSING AN EDGE
BY CATHERINE GAYLE

USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle presents another novel in the Portland Storm hockey romance series.

Tired of being the second-best Babcock, Levi “501” Babcock is ready to outshine his older brother. Outranking his brother proves harder than he imagined—until he meets a sinfully sexy gold-medal-winning figure skater. She might be the prize he’s been searching for all along.

Bubbly and spirited Cadence Johnson is determined to escape the shackles of her former partner. Moving to Portland gives her the fresh start she’s craved, but the last thing she can afford is a distraction like Levi Babcock.

When Cadence’s past comes back to threaten her and her life is on the line, Levi might be the safety net she never realized she needed. But will Levi still care about Losing an Edge to his biggest rival, or can he finally step out of his brother’s shadow to become the hero in his own game?

MY REVIEW

Those Babcock boys are back in Losing an Edge by Catherine Gayle. Jamie’s younger brother, Levi, called 501, is bound and determined to get out of the shadow of his older brother. When he starts dating Canada’s figure skating darling, Candace, is in Portland to heal after a rough couple of years. Both are down on their luck and hoping to pick themselves up, and find something in each other they can’t find anywhere else. Losing an Edge is the next book in the Portland Storm series, and I would highly recommend picking up these books in you are looking for a great hockey series.

Anyone can relate for feelings of inadequacy, and these two have beat themselves up to the point they can’t see what’s in front of them. Levi is a perfect gentleman, and the way he treats Candace after he hears about what she has been through makes me want to clone him. Candace has a lot of stuff to work through, but I admired the way she was able to move beyond her bad relationships to develop something worthwhile with Levi. As usual, there were several people from the Portland Storm making an appearance, and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Merissa loved her brother. She’d always seen him as Superman, larger than life, a rock whenever she’d needed one.
He was only a couple of years older than her, but for as long as she could remember he’d seemed grown-up.
Right now, Superman was in her kitchen, insisting on getting her a drink when all she really wanted was the time alone to let go. She knew if she fell apart in front of him, Cannon would never leave her.
He didn’t need to be a savior, not right now.
“Here.” He returned with a cola over ice, urging her to the couch. He smoothed back her hair, his gaze drawn to the bruise. Yes, it hurt. But the physical discomfort was nothing compared to the fear.
And here she’d promised herself, long ago, that she’d never again let herself be that type of victim.
But this fear—it was more about Armie standing in front of her, using himself as a shield. Risking his own life.
Willing to die.
“Take these.” Cannon handed her two aspirin.
She tried a teasing smile. “This feels so familiar.”
He stalled, then shook his head. “Don’t think about that.”
She couldn’t help herself. They’d lost their dad when she was only sixteen. As the owner of a neighborhood bar he’d resisted the extortion of local thugs, refusing to pay their demanded fees for “protection.” Late one night when he’d been closing, men had come in and beaten him to death.
Devastated but determined, their mom had nearly worked herself into her own grave trying to keep them afloat. Merissa could remember it all like yesterday. The goons wanted her mother to sell but she’d refused.
Until some of those goons had cornered Merissa on her way home from school.
“It’s all the same. You coddling me, being the strong one for both of us.”
“You were a kid then.”
“You’re only two years older than me,” she reminded him with a shoulder bump. “You were a kid then, too.”
“Maybe. I remember feeling so damned helpless.”
“Like you feel now?” She knew her brother, knew he wanted to make things right for her when that wasn’t his responsibility. “I’m not a kid anymore, Cannon. I can handle it.”
“You don’t have to.”
“Yes, I do,” she told him gently. “Because I don’t want my big brother stuck taking care of me again.”
He folded her hand into his own. “You know I enjoy it, right?”
Her laugh sounded pitiful. But she still remembered how her mother had given in because of her. Cannon had found those men, and even at eighteen he’d made them pay with his fists—because of her.
She’d influenced him into becoming a fighter.
And it was because of her that he’d formed the neighborhood watch. Everyone loved Cannon, but no one could love him more than she did.
“Superman,” she teased. “This time, I promise I can take care of myself.”
A slight knock on the door made her jump.
“It’s just Armie,” Cannon said with a squeeze to her shoulder. “I’ll let him in.”
Nodding, she again thought of the way Armie had stood in front of her, willing to block bullets if necessary.
Emotion welled up, choking her, killing her.
She quickly took the aspirin and tried to get herself together.
Armie peeked in cautiously, saw her on the couch and came in farther. “She okay?”
“Yes,” Merissa and Cannon said at the same time.
Armie gave a slight, tilted smile. “Hey, Stretch.” He came over to her, laid her keys on the coffee table, then winced at the darkening discoloration on her jaw.
“I bruise easily,” she explained. “By tomorrow it’s going to look worse, believe me. But it was just a slap. I doubt you guys would have even noticed.”
Armie crouched down in front of her. “Hey, you’re not a fighter, hon.”
She liked it when he called her something other than Stretch. Something affectionate. “No kidding.” She hadn’t fought at all; fear and the furious beating of her heart had kept her malleable and weak. It infuriated her.
“I may be big, but I lack muscle.” And guts.
“Tall,” Armie corrected. “You’re tall, but far from big. More like…”
“What?”
He thought about it. “Delicate.”
A genuine smile took her by surprise. So Armie Jacobson saw her as delicate? Huh.
Knowing she needed to get this over with, Merissa took another drink, then set her glass aside and stood.
Armie slowly did the same, his cautious gaze never leaving her. Cannon stood near him, strangely quiet.
They both watched her as if expecting her to lose it at any second.
And maybe she would—if she didn’t have an audience.

MY REVIEW

So I hadn’t really read any books in this series by Lori Foster, but I definitely remedied that after reading Fighting Dirty. Armie is one of the best fighters available, but old problems have left him unwilling to seek the fame and recognition he deserves, while Marissa is just fighting to keep her sanity after being rejected by Armie one too many times. But Marissa has had enough, and she gives Armie an ultimatum he can’t refuse.

Armie is a reformed manwhore, having changed his ways for Marissa. This was a bit of a stretch for me, but you can tell from his actions that he truly loves Marissa and wants to be with her. The mystery that encompasses them from the beginning of their relationship just adds to the story. While it’s pretty apparent from the very start who is to blame for everything happening it doesn’t diminish the fact that Armie and Marissa are trying to figure out who has is out for her. The addition of the other couples from previous books and series was great to read about, and I definitely hope to read more about them in the future.

And don’t miss the previous books in the Ultimate Series!

SAVING STEELE BY ANNE JOLIN BLOG TOUR AND REVIEW!

What happens when circumstances of life threaten the one thing both Jackson and Kennedy love? Saving Steele from himself may prove to be too much for Cross to bear.

THE ROCK FALLS SERIES IS BACK!!
The 5th installment, SAVING STEELE, is now available for purchase!

SAVING STEELE by Anne Jolin
Rock Falls Series #5
Genre: Contemporary Romance
- SYNOPSIS -
Kennedy Cross had her heart broken early in life. It wasn't someone or something who betrayed her—it was her own body. Despite it being all she’s ever wanted, Kennedy will never know what it feels like to feel her baby’s feet kick from the inside out. Having been pronounced infertile at only eighteen, she redirected her life the best way she could.

Eight years and a degree later, Kennedy is one of the most well-loved first-grade teachers at Rock Falls Elementary School. It doesn’t matter that her college boyfriend left her because he wanted children of his own. She has twenty-two of the most gorgeous six-year-olds who adore her and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Jackson Steele deals only in extremes. He falls victim to manic episodes lasting for days, sometimes weeks at a time, sending him reeling from volatile highs to devastating lows. It’s a living hell just being inside his own mind, and that hell has taken everything he’s ever loved away from him. But what if, this time, it gives him something? An untimely gift from God and a brunette with legs eight miles long will bring him the most unforeseen joy but also his most challenging of tests.

What happens when circumstances of life threaten the one thing both Jackson and Kennedy love? Saving Steele from himself may prove to be too much for Cross to bear.

- EXCERPT -
I’d totally become a yes girl where hot guy, dad to mini hot guy, Jackson Steele was concerned.
So that brings me to now, turning off my ignition and willing my body to move from the safety of my driver’s seat and up to his front door.

It’s okay though. I’ve come prepared. I’d written a list of things not to do when I arrived at the house on a yellow Post-it note.

1. Don’t hyperventilate
2. Don’t sweat
3. Don’t touch him
4. Don’t say the word “penis” or any of its synonyms or any parts of the male anatomy in general
5. Don’t drool

Putting force behind the fist I’d raised to knock on the door I immediately begin to fall forward as the offending panel of wood swings inward and I face plant directly into a hard male chest.
Rats! There goes rule number three and quickly too.

Mmm. But he sure smells nice.

“Easy, babe,” his voice is a deep manly chuckle, large hands settling on my waist.

I feel that “babe,” that chuckle and that contact in all the right places, even a tingle or two in some wrong ones if I’m being honest.

Considering I’m relatively close to the brink of insanity this morning, it isn’t all that surprising that in that second, instead of pulling away, I take the opportunity to tilt my head back and look at him, really look at him, for the second time since we’d met.

Big mistake.

Should have added a sixth rule. Don’t look at him either.

MY REVIEW

Anne Jolin has weaved a great story about redemption in the latest Rock Fall series, Saving Steele. Jackson Steele was the ex-boyfriend from the first book of the series who suffers from bipolar disorder. He is suddenly thrust into new territory when he discovers he has a six year old child he knew nothing about. Kennedy is the sister of one of the other characters, and her work with children soothes the fact she is unable to have children.

Reading these books is always a treat, and Saving Steele is no different. Jackson needed some sort of peace after the craziness that was his life, and I loved watching him find it with Kennedy. And Ryker? Jackson’s gorgeous son stole the show in my opinion, and was the balm for Kennedy after years of feeling less than worthy. I do wish the story had been longer, because it did seem a bit rushed at times, but that doesn’t take away from the gorgeous story. I would highly recommend this series, and I can’t wait to read more from Anne Jolin!

- ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Anne Jolin -

Hey y’all,
I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns, and driving in trucks.

I never expected to be an author. A massage therapist? Yes. Take over the family construction company? Yes. But an author? No. Writing was something that snuck up on me and rooted itself into my life. It was beautiful to discover that love, and I’m truly grateful to say I’ve found my passion.

Since I’ve always been a creative person, it feels amazing to harness all of that energy and use it to tell a story I love. I enjoy incorporating bits of my real life into the stories I write. What parts are true? Hah. I’ll never tell—what would be the fun in that?

If I could leave y’all with one thing, it’s that life’s far too short to not live it out loud. Drown in your passions, hold on tight to the things that inspire you, and chase your dreams relentlessly. I can promise you without a doubt that you won’t regret it. I know I don’t.

Mad love,
Anne Jolin

SYPNOSIS

Introduced in Toni Aleo’s Bellevue Bullies Series, it’s the Sinclair brothers’ big sister’s turn to find love in the next installment of the New York Times and USA Today best-selling series, the Assassins.

Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.

She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She’s gotten to the point that she’s okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.

Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he’d never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn’t ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love.

FAKING IT BY JD HOLLYFIELD BLOG TOUR AND REVIEW!

Title: Faking It
Author: J.D. Hollyfield
Release Date: Feb 1, 2016
Find on Goodreads
Fake it till you make it.
That’s Lexi Hall, the wild socialite’s motto for how to live life.
Single and allergic to commitment, Lexi is having the time of her life.  Or is she? With a new promotion at the art gallery, and her colorful lifestyle as bright as ever, she swears she has no interest in slowing down. When Lexi receives a phone call that can change her career, she pounces on the opportunity. But what this outgoing diva doesn’t plan for is her new client, the closed off, secluded artist, Hunter James. Fighting to draw the line between work and pleasure, it’s up to Lexi to figure out how to balance her fake life for something real.
Hunter James is an artist without a muse. Lacking the beauty in his life that he craves, his art is beginning to suffer.  Unfortunately for the mysterious artist, a past mistake also tarnishes his trust in women. Forced to take a meeting with an art gallery dealer, he accepts knowing he’ll turn her down. He turns them all down.  But what he doesn’t anticipate is for the seductive bombshell to turn his world upside down.  As his body and mind come alive, he vows to stop at nothing to have her on his canvas and in his bed.
As Lexi’s life begins to brighten with the promise of something beautiful, can she stop faking it and find a reason to make it real? Or will Hunter’s past replace their light with darkness?
We haven’t been up in the friendly skies for more than a few minutes before Hunter begins to unclip his seat belt. “I need you to come to the bathroom with me?”
“Why? They don’t like too many people standing in the aisle, you know.”
“You won’t be standing in the aisle. Let’s go.” I’m looking at him strangely. Until it sinks in. “Why exactly do you want me to go with you?”
“Because I can’t stand it any longer,” he whisper-growls. “I need to take you into the bathroom and make them think I am fucking you senseless so these vultures know you’re with me. Get up, let’s go.” He snaps his belt off and attempts to stand.
I pull his shoulder down so he falls back into his seat. “Hunter, we can’t both go into the bathroom and do any of that. It’s illegal.” And I also refuse to admit why I know that.
“It’s not. I’m sure people still do it all the time. Up you go.” His pupils are beginning to dilate and I know he is serious.  The poor man has been festering about the non-competition on each side of us since we took off.
“Hunter.” Turning my body toward him, I take my hands and cup his face. I raise my voice so my words are dramatized and so that the two meat cakes on each side of us can hear. “I know you are aching to do so many dirty things to me, but my sores aren’t gone yet. The doctor said we should wait. We don’t want you to get them again, do we?” I tease. I watch the meat cake next to Hunter, scrunch his face and turn away from us. I turn to the aisle and flag down the flight attendant. “Yes, excuse me, do you think I can get some ice? I have some... ya know, blisters... down below, and the ice helps.” I smile while catching the cringing face of my other ex-fan. Mission complete. I offer my attention back to the only person on this plane who I care about. Hunter is stock-still, except for his eyes, which are now as big as saucers. “You realize you just announced to most of the plane that you have genital herpes, right?”
“Yep. And now no one will give me the time of day. I’m all yours.” I wink. Hunter’s expression has dissolved into one of humor, although he is shaking his head at me.
“You amaze me more and more every single second, Lex. And I do believe that if you’re not careful, we will end up searching out those chapels.”
I try to hide the surge of emotions that shoot through my heart.
I bring his mouth to mine and with my lips and my tongue, I offer him the best French kiss ever, convincing him just how little anyone else on this plane matters. And just how much he does.
It takes the flight attendant telling us we’re about to land for us to break away. I don’t lose eye contact with Hunter and I can tell he is appreciative of what I did. He feels like the man in charge. Even if his prize was herpes.
Oops.

MY REVIEW

What’s a sassy art director to do when the reclusive artist is hot enough to set her panties on fire? Lexi Hall has to find out quickly in JD Hollyfield’s romantic comedy Faking It. Lexi is trying to make the most of her recent promotion at work, which means she needs to land on of the top contemporary artists. The only problem is he is not all he seems, and he wants Lexi to be his latest creation.

This book was great from the very beginning. Amusing and heartwarming, JD Hollyfield brings enough sass into Lexi’s character I found myself wishing I was her friend. And let’s not forget the swoon worthy Hunter James, who barrels himself into Lexi’s life with the grace of a bull in a china shop. He has an artist temperament (which gets to be a bit much) with a heart of gold, and I loved watching these two unlikely characters find their HEA. The supporting cast was great, I loved seeing some old and new characters and although the twist at the end kind of threw me off I still really enjoyed the book. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a quick read that gives you enough heat to scorch a page.
