SMOKE SIGNALS BY CATHERINE GAYLE REVIEW!

SMOKE SIGNALS BY CATHERINE GAYLE
(The Tulsa Thunderbirds)

USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle presents the second novel in the Tulsa Tunderbirds hockey romance series.

When dark desperation meets opportunity…
On a celebratory trip with his best friend, Ray “Razor” Chambers meets sultry Viktoriya Dubrovskaya and immediately recognizes the desperation in her eyes—a sight he remembers all too well. Permanently in survival mode, the destitute and broken Viktoriya makes him an offer—a proposition he immediately refuses. However, Razor’s counter-offer changes everything for her.
A ring.
A marriage.
A lifetime of opportunity.
But learning to live together as husband and wife is as foreign as interpreting Smoke Signals. And where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
CONTENT WARNING: contains graphic and potentially disturbing descriptions of abuse, both physical and sexual.

MY REVIEW

Razor has always been the guy that never seemed to grow up, but I feel in love with him in Smoke Signals. His story and Tori’s is not a traditional love story, but it’s beautiful all the same. They meet when she propositions him for sex, and instead of making her feel cheap he marries her instead. The rest of the story is spent watching them wade themselves through their relationship.

I must admit when I realized what her former professional was I wondered how Ms. Gayle would spin this. I shouldn’t have worried, because my heart bled for her, and Catherine Gayle truly captured the plight of many women doing sex work. Razor was an amazing person, and exactly what she needed in order to her heal her body, heart, and mind. He was still the same loveable person, but showed a maturity he never quite captured while he was with the Portland Storm. It was always enjoyable to read about the other characters from both series, and the wedding was truly magical. Every book, be it the Portland Storm or the Tulsa Thuderbirds Series seems to get better!

DIRTY LIES BY EMMA HART RELEASE BLITZ!

Bad boy drummer Aidan Burke of Dirty B takes center stage in New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart’s hotly anticipated follow-up to Dirty Past and Dirty Secret!

Aidan Burke is the perfect rebound guy for Jessie Law after she catches her asshole ex-boyfriend with his hands down some other girl’s pants. The world-famous drummer of Dirty B isn’t shy about his preference for no-strings-attached relationships, so when she meets him on a night out, she takes him up on his simple proposal: One night of fun. Hot sex. Zero expectations.

But Dirty B’s tour is over, and they’re back in South Carolina—which means running into Aidan more often than Jessie would like.

When Aidan saves Jessie from her ex-boyfriend by insisting the two are dating, the band’s manager convinces them to keep up the charade in the hopes of re-inventing Dirty B’s image as lovable bad boys, as opposed to d-bags. Now all Aidan and Jessie have to do is put on a very obvious, very public show to convince everyone their affection is real.

But pretending to be in a relationship is harder than it seems. Aidan’s hordes of jealous fans have no problem bombarding Jessie with threatening messages online—and worse. And things only get more complicated when Jessie realizes her feelings for Aidan may not be so fake after all. Can Jessie live with the risks? And is Aidan willing to let her?

MY REVIEW

Emma Hart has hit another winner with Dirty Lies. This is the third book in the Burke Brothers book and I would highly recommend reading the other two books because it gives you background and it’s sexy rockers, so who wouldn’t want to read it? Aidan Burke has truly met his match in the feisty Jessie, who charges onto the scene with a bang. The drummer of Dirty B is the very definition of a rocker, but unfortunately that means his media presence has taken a hit. On hiatus in their hometown he decides to improve his image with his childhood friend, Jessie.

Jessie was a take no prisoners kind of girl, and she gave as good as she got. It was enlightening to see a woman who wasn’t fawning all over Aiden, and watching him grapple with his feelings provided a comedic relief. Watching the characters I’ve fallen in love with was great, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Kye.

Excerpt

“Wait.” Alexandra’s voice shook although she stood proud, deepening Roman’s respect for her. “I’ve never done anything like this before, and it freaked me out. That doesn’t mean I don’t want you, or need you; it just means I needed a minute.” She closed her eyes at the last statement, shaking her head slightly, and he instantly softened. How could he not when this beautiful, vulnerable woman, strong and proud in their previous interactions, yet seemingly neglectful of her personal needs, stood before him imploring him to wait. Not anymore, he thought as he moved closer, lifting his hand to her face. Her eyes remained closed but she moved her face toward him, pressing into his palm.

“Hey,” he whispered, rubbing his thumb lightly against her cheek. She turned toward him, opening her eyes and allowing him to see everything she was feeling. He read fear, trepidation, and anticipation in those beautiful depths. More than anything, he wanted to wipe away the anxiety burning bright, so he kissed her softly. He also needed to alleviate the burn in his chest from thinking about her. Because he had thought about her, way more than he should; even when he was supposed to be working on his club, he hadn’t been able to get the beauty out of his mind. She was every fantasy and nightmare rolled into one; a siren built for temporary pleasure before she brought endless destruction. This girl would be his downfall.

BEYOND WHAT IS GIVEN
Flight & Glory #3
Rebecca Yarros
Releasing Sept 28th, 2015
Entangled Embrace

Lt. Grayson Masters is focused on graduating the Apache helicopter course, and the last thing he needs is his gorgeous new roommate Samantha Fitzgerald distracting him. While her smart mouth and free spirit are irresistibly irritating, he can’t deny their off-the-charts chemistry, no matter how hard he tries.

Having just been expelled from college, Sam has no business digging for Grayson’s secrets while she’s hiding her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to tear down his walls. Each barrier she busts through drops one of her own, though, and she’s not prepared for the truth: another woman laid claim to Grayson’s heart long ago.

Falling in love is something neither Grayson nor Sam can afford, and when that line is crossed and secrets are exposed, they’ll learn that sometimes it’s the answered prayers that will put you through hell.

Rebecca Yarros gives a heart wrenching tale in Beyond What is Given that brings out all the feelings. It tells about Sam, Ember’s old friend and Grayson, the soldier in flight school with Josh and Jagger. It is the third book in the Flight and Glory series and can be read as a standalone but read the rest of the series because it’s amazing. Grayson is the consummate soldier, and he puts his duty to others above himself. This is especially apparent when the secret he’s been hiding comes to light. It will break your heart, and having you wishing you had someone half as loyal as he is. Sam has been through a rough couple of years, and she is desperately trying to create a way for herself in the new city.

Grayson and Sam hit it off and sparks fly. This was a case of opposites attract, but Yarros gives it credibility and I ate it up like a sappy spoon. It was great to see the gang, and the growth in these two characters were stunning. It was great until about the 60% part and then it fell apart faster than an ice cream cake on a warm day. I felt like the strength we saw in these two dissolved quickly, and there was so much back and forth it made my head spin. And please don’t get me started on his family, who was like a batch of crazy dipped in chocolate. I am going with the four star because I did like the book, but I felt like there was too much petty drama to bump it to the five star. This was a solid addition to the series, and I can’t wait for the next one.

I shrieked as the mixer whirred a shrill pitch
and batter exploded, hitting the walls, the cabinets, my face...everything. I sputtered as some landed in my mouth, and slammed my hand against the lever to turn it off.
This was going to be a bitch to clean up.
“Are you okay?” Grayson ran in, hair damp from the shower. His eyes widened as he took in the state of his precious kitchen. “You weren’t kidding about the mess.”
“Oh this?” I smiled. “It’s a new aeration technique. I totally meant to do this.” My awesome excuse died as a glob of brownie mix fell off the tip of my nose.
“Is that so?” he asked, walking over to me slowly, consuming my vision. My breath hitched as he swiped his finger across my cheek, and then licked the brownie mix off the digit. Holy hot. “Hmm... I think there’s something to be said for this method. Maybe a little more air in the batter?”
My mouth popped open. “Are you making fun of me?”
He smirked, which must have had a direct link to my panties, because they unanimously voted to drop. Now. There was sexy, and there was Grayson’s tongue sweeping across his lower lip, which was a step beyond hedonistic. His eyes took on a mischievous glint but kept the same signature intensity that held me captive, unable to look anywhere else as he lowered his face toward mine. What...what was he
doing?
Do you even care? Nope. Not one bit.
“Maybe another taste to be sure?” he asked, his voice low as his lips skimmed across my jawline. “Mmm. Definitely more.” Shivers coursed down my body. Holy shit. His mouth was actually on me, and I was awake.
He flipped the switch on the mixer and chocolate flew.
“You did not!” I let my knees buckle so I slipped to the floor, leaving Grayson to be splattered by the flying confection.
“I most certainly did!” He lifted me up like I weighed nothing, and batter smacked the back of my tank top. “Man, you’re slippery.” He mock-dropped me.
I yelped, locking my ankles around his waist and my hands around his neck. He turned off the mixer and chuckled low in his throat. “You can laugh?” I asked, yanking my head back to look at him.
“I have been known to on occasion,” he answered, that stupid, crazy-sexy smirk in play despite the chocolate on his cheeks and forehead. How the hell could someone look so hot while literally dripping brownie batter?
“I like it,” I admitted.
His smirk disappeared, and his grip tightened on my bare thighs as his gaze dropped to my lips. They parted as if he’d freaking asked them to. We weren’t just stepping out of the friend-zone here, we were on a damn missile into let- me-jump-you-ville.
“I do, too,” he whispered.

MY REVIEW

Inflame Me by Ryan Michele is the latest installment of her Ravage MC series, and she brings the same gritty and passionate story to the new one. This story starts off with a bang, and Tanner desperately needs the help of the father she’s never met. It leads her right to Ravage’s door with her injured mother, and she has to balance her past with her future while trying to get to know her father.

Tanner does the best she can trying to navigate her way through the Ravage MC. She is aided by Rhys, one of her father’s best friends, who is a take no prisoners Alpha male. He is protective of Tanner, and watching him fall for this pint sized woman was amusing. There was another side romance that was a welcome and unexpected addition. As usual there was plenty of action, but for this story it seemed to be wrapped up a little too conveniently. It was as though all their problems were over before they started, which made me feel as though the action dragged a bit. It can be read as a standalone but that ending leaves you wanting the next one.

...

Ryan Michele has a huge obsession with reading, which only came to life after her best friend said she had to read Twilight. After reading that series, her entire world changed in the blink of an eye. Not only was she sucked into new worlds and all of the wonderful words authors put down on paper, she felt the urge to begin to write down the characters that played inside of her head. In doing so, Safe was born. When she’s not reading or writing, she spends time taking care of her two children and her husband, enjoying the outdoors and laying in the sun.
